It is with great sadness that we announce that Valerie Bastet, born Valerie Ann Oddy on February 21st, 1957, passed away unexpectedly on February 26th, 2022.
Valerie began her day on February 25th like any other. She packed two of her three beloved dogs into her car and headed to the canine centre where she walked and trained daily. It was at the centre where she commented to a friend that she heard an odd sound in her ear. Moments later Valerie collapsed on the astroturf and a brave employee of the centre began to perform CPR. Valerie's husband Evert was called and he arrived without delay. She was transported to the Valleyfield hospital where the decision was later made to transport her to the Montreal Neurological Institute. It was discovered that she had suffered a catastrophic ruptured brain aneurysm. Valerie was on life support and waited for her family.
The following day, Evert was joined by his and Valerie's daughters Nicole Mawson (Michael Mawson) and Kaci Bastet, as well as Valerie's sisters Kathleen Allen (Michael Ryan) and Krissy Oddy (André Hamelin) and brother Brad Oddy (Audra Kudzma), and by her late brother Brian Oddy's son, Travis Oddy (Becky Luger). Valerie had her final moments with her loving husband, daughters, siblings and nephew. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Valerie is survived by her grandchildren Éva Rozon, Charles Rozon, Zoey Mawson and Jordana Mawson. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Michael Bastet (Wendy Bastet), and seven other nieces and nephews.
Valerie was an avid animal lover, especially of dogs, and she left this world in her happiest place. We would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Guides Canins and to all of the dog community members who shared this passion with Valerie.
A celebration of Valerie's life was held at the Whitlock Golf and Country Club in Hudson, QC, on Sunday, March 20th.
